Evaluation Question 4

Evaluation Q4./ Who would be the audience for your media product?

The audience for my media product includes teenage girls from the ages of 13-19. The characters are in uniform therefore girls in school can relate to the characters. This makes the product more personal as the girls can understand what is going on.
Our media product was inspired by the popular TV series 'Skins' as well as the nickelodeon programme 'Sam and Cat'. Both of which entail a young teenage audience.

In addition, the audience to 'Skins' is slightly older hence the audience for the product being so varied.

Evaluation Question 5

Evaluation Q5./ How do you attract/address your audience?

The aspects of the opening appeals to our target audience through Mise en scene, the actors, genre and film name effectively.

For example, the opening scene begins showing a few girly images such as heels, makeup, dresses etc. This will appeal to the stereotypical young girl who is into all of this. In addition, the room is pink which will appeal to a younger audience of girls.

Evaluation Question 6

Evaluation Q6./ What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

The technologies used in the product include a JVC camera to film. We used a variety of shots to create the film such as over the shoulder shots, close ups etc.

We also used hard drives to save files on so that we don't lose our data. This hugely helped as we didn't have a risk of it getting lost/deleted.

The SD Card to was important as it was used to save data filmed on the camera. This was positioned just about the tripod on the camera and there were two compartments to ensure we didn't run out of filming space.

Lastly, a flip camera to film interviews.  The interviews of the feedback after the theatre when we watched our opening helped us to understand what we did right and what we could improve next time.

Evaluation Question 7

Evaluation Q7./ Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Research

In the progression from my preliminary task to my full product product, my skills increased greatly. In my prelim, I learnt about over the shoulder shots and how to use the camera properly with the tripod. I didn't learn about anything else at this point. Whereas in the final piece, I learnt how to present titles, sound and structure in order to portray and support the genre well and in preparation for the pre-product. Through conducting research for my final film, I acquired new and developed existing skills.
I can now use many programs such as:

Final Cut Pro to cut from scene to scene and for titles:

Pre-production and Planning

In my prelim, I thought about where to film (in college) as well as making a storyboard. I didn't have enough time to plan another place outside of college. The idea and script was set up for me (Waterloo Road). The final product was planned very precisely in order to ensure a perfect final product. We followed guidelines for costumes and mise en scene (such as dresses for the party girl and geek glasses for the nerd) in order to make sure that the message of what the characters stereotypically represented as is put across clearly.

Filming

For the prelim i didn't know much about framing at this point so left a lot of space above the character's heads. There was also artificial lighting without turning the filter switch on which made the characters look too bright. In addition, most of the shots weren't in focus.

Whereas, with the final product I ensured that the shots had the right amount of lighting and were focussed well beforehand. Also, made sure that the headspace was inches above the characters' heads.

Editing

For my prelim, I didn't know how to add titles nor how to match cut properly. I broke the 180 degree rule. Whereas in the final piece, I learnt how to include titles, sound, match cutting, the thirds rule and continuity editing. This made the whole final product look much more professional as opposed to amateur.

Double Trouble: Final Cut Finished!

We have finally finished editing the opening sequence to 'Double Trouble'!

In order to have finished our final cut we had to make sure all our shots were all in the right order, using a variety of shot types and angles, the sound was appropriate and suited our scene.

We also had to make sure that all the credits were there in the right order and consistent in house style.

Media terminology

Terminology that I have learnt throughout my time planning, filming and editing our opening sequence.

Sound

I've noticed that most production and distribution companies have their own sound for their ident. So it would be difficult for us to add any music over our ident, however I have decided to add music at the very end of the production ident as it would be very appropriate for the opening sequence.
